As I write this letter, it has been just over a year since the Trump administration began dismantling USAID. This is only one example of the cuts to development aid and other forms of international cooperation that have taken place across Europe and the United States in recent years. Research has not been spared from these developments.
The
first Faculty Board meeting of the year has taken place, and below is a summary
of some of the items on the agenda:
Annual
accounts 2025
Among
other things, the board was informed about the faculty’s annual accounts for
2025. Turnover increased by approximately 1 per cent to just over SEK 1.7
billion, while the number of full-time equivalent employees decreased slightly
to 1,045.
Recruitments The faculty board
decided to recruit two senior lecturers: one in food biotechnology at the
Department of Molecular Sciences, and one in crop science at the Department of
Crop Production Ecology.
New board members The faculty board
appointed a new member to the The Environmental monitoring and assessment board:
Johanna Wetterlind at the Department of Soil and Environment. The faculty board
also appointed Brian Kuns at the Department of Urban and Rural Development as a
full member of the Programme Board.
Ceep track of calls, scholarships and more
Every week, NJ’s research officer, Kristine Koch, sends an email to all Heads of Department with information about current calls, scholarships, webinars, conferences and other opportunities that may be of interest to the faculty’s researchers.
The mailings include both external information from, for example, research foundations or government agencies, and internal information from the faculty or SLU centrally.
The intention is for Heads of Department to forward these emails to all relevant staff at their respective departments. If you do not receive these mailings, please contact your Head of Department.
Professor
Sara Hallin at the Department of Forest Mycology and Plant Pathology has been
elected to the Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences in the section for Biological
Sciences.
Recently, the following professors at the NJ Faculty have also been
elected to the Royal Swedish Academy of Agriculture and Forestry: Jennie
Barron, Helena Hansson and Thomas Keller.
The Microsoft 365 Migration
The Migration to Microsoft 365 project is part of the IT Infrastructure Upgrade Programme and aims to provide SLU with a modern and secure digital platform for communication and collaboration.
