🎤 Meet the Plenary Speakers
We are pleased to introduce
two of the plenary speakers for BIOGEOMON 2026:
|
Professor of Ecology, Umeå University, Sweden | |
Prof. David WardleProf. David Wardle is a leading ecologist whose research explores how interactions between aboveground and belowground communities shape terrestrial ecosystem functioning across forests and tundra worldwide, from the tropics to the Arctic. He has published ~400 peer-reviewed papers, including ~30 in Science and Nature, and authored two influential books on aboveground–belowground linkages. A highly recognised mentor and scientist, he has supervised over 60 PhD students and postdocs and is a Highly Cited Researcher with more than 120,000 citations.

Prof.
Emma Kritzberg
Prof. Emma Kritzberg studies aquatic biogeochemistry, focusing on the links between terrestrial, freshwater, and marine systems. Her research examines the export of organic matter and iron from land to surface waters and its impacts on receiving ecosystems. A central theme is browning, the darkening of Northern Hemisphere waters due to rising levels of dissolved organic matter and iron. Her interdisciplinary work spans biogeochemistry, microbiology, analytical chemistry, and microbial ecology across soils, lakes, rivers, streams, and coastal environments. 👉 Learn

🌊 Participate in a Coordinated Multi-Lake Mesocosm Experiment
Following the BIOGEOMON 2026 conference, the Swedish Infrastructure for Ecosystem Science (SITES) will run a coordinated, multi-lake mesocosm experiment from June 15 to July 3, 2026. This experiment aligns with the conference theme “Ecosystems in Transition” and will investigate how terrestrial inputs of mineral particles affect carbon and nutrient transformations, food web dynamics, and lake metabolism.
We invite researchers and students to join in the planning, implementation, and analysis of this experiment. Participants can:
-
Join with a specific research project addressing a question that fits within the overarching experiment theme, or
-
Participate as an intern without a specific project.
Both options require a brief application of interest, due March 31, 2026:
SITES provides free access to:
-
Mesocosms and instrumentation
-
Technical support for setup
-
Background chemical and sensor data
-
Lab space for sample processing
For more information, join the information meeting via Zoom on February 13, 2026, at 10:00: Zoom link
