New vaccine against Staphylococcus aureus-induced mastitis
Researchers from the Departments of Clinical Sciences, and Biomedical Science and Veterinary Public Health, Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences investigated a new NanoQuil based vaccine against S. aureus-induced mastitis in dairy cows. The study was performed as a clinical trial with a commercial vaccine as control. No significant differences between treatment groups were recorded although overall udder health improved in the herd.
This study shows that cells from frozen testicular tissue can be reprogrammed into stem cells and then into early germ cell-like cells. It offers a potential future fertility strategy for boys whose cancer treatment has severely depleted sperm-producing cells.
New biomarker identified for early prediction of preeclampsia and fetal growth restriction?
The isthmin-2 gene and protein are produced almost exclusively in the placenta and is lower in early pregnancy in women that later will develop pregnancy complications. Isthmin-2 may play a causal role in the early pathophysiology of failed placental development, and may therefore represent promising targets for the prediction and prevention of preeclampsia and fetal growth restriction.
Welcome to the annual CRU networking meeting November 18, focusing on the placenta!
Keynote speakers are Irving L. M. H. Aye and Pascale Chavatte-Palmer. As a PhD student or early in your career you can participate in a presentation competition, but all are welcome to display posters at the meeting.
Deadline to
signed up has formally passed but please contact the course leader Jane Morrell
(jane.morrell@slu.se) as soon as possible if you want to join.
