Prof. Emily Stanley
Prof. Emily Stanley is a Professor at the University of Wisconsin–Madison, leading research on aquatic ecosystem ecology and biogeochemistry. She studies carbon cycling, greenhouse gas dynamics, and long-term ecological change in rivers and lakes, and directs the North Temperate Lakes LTER program. Her work has earned her recognition as a Fellow of ESA, ASLO, and the Aldo Leopold Leadership Program, and she received ASLO’s G.E. Hutchinson Award (2018) for transformative contributions to inland water biogeochemistry.

Prof. James Kirchner
Prof. James Kirchner research spans hydrology, geomorphology, and ecohydrology, with a current focus on the flow, chemistry, and geomorphology of mountain streams. He has held leadership roles as Director of WSL (Switzerland) and Goldman Distinguished Professor at UC Berkeley, and has been recognized with the EGU Bagnold Medal, AGU Fellowship, and AGU Langbein Lecture for lifetime contributions to hydrology and geomorphology. In 2025/26, he will serve as Royal Professor of Environmental Sciences in Sweden, studying boreal ecohydrology with SLU Umeå and the Krycklan Catchment Study.

🔬 Session Spotlights – Exploring Ecosystems in
Transition
BIOGEOMON
2026 addresses the conference theme “Ecosystems in Transition” with 20
interdisciplinary sessions. Three of these sessions are highlighted below.
Descriptions of all 20 can be found here 👉 More sessions
🌱 Nitrogen Biogeochemistry – Links to Other Elements and Biodiversity Co-chairs: Filip Oulehle & Kathrin Rousk This session explores how nitrogen interacts with other key elements and influences biodiversity, providing insights into nutrient cycling and ecosystem functioning.
💧 Biogeochemical Responses to Hydrological Extremes – Flood and Drought Co-chairs: Anna Lupon & Heleen de Wit Focuses on how floods and droughts affect biogeochemical processes, with implications for ecosystem resilience under climate change.
🌾 Land-Use Transformation as a Driver of Catchment Fluxes for Water, Nutrients, and Carbon Co-chairs: Rebecca Hale & Susana Bernal Examines how changes in land use alter water, nutrient, and carbon fluxes at the catchment scale, highlighting the link between human activity and ecosystem biogeochemistry.
