An
Exciting Environmental Monitoring and Assessment Autumn to Look Forward To
After
a hopefully slower start, the autumn activities coupled to environmental monitoring
and assessment (EMA) are now gaining momentum. The
call for development projects within SLU’s 12 EMA-programs closed. Now begins a
period where both the program coordinators and the members of the faculty’s
environmental analysis board (Fomanämnden) will sort, process and evaluate the
submitted project proposals for NJ’s seven EMA-programs.
The Board held its first meeting of the autumn and addressed the following matters:
The
board has approved the advertisement for the recruitment of an associate
senior lecturer in Terrestrial Microbial Ecology at the Department of Forest
Mycology and Plant Pathology.
This
year’s quality report from the Doctoral Education Committee was presented.
External
experts were appointed to assess applicants for the position of Professor in
Environmental Policy and Environmental Governance.
Hanna Astner from the Department of Economics. was appointed as a new member Program Board (PN-NJ).
As previously announced, SLU’s supplier of the Adato system Miljödata has been subjected to a cyberattack. Some employee personal data has now been leaked, and it is important that you, as a member of staff, remain vigilant.

New Master of Science in Engineering programme to start in 2026
In June, the Vice-Chancellor decided that the new Master of Science in Engineering programme will begin in the autumn of 2026. More recently, the Board of Education approved the name of the programme: Master of Science in Engineering – Bioresource Systems. The programme will admit 30 students and be based in Uppsala.
Work is now well under way at several departments and within the university administration to plan and prepare for the launch.
“There is a great deal that needs to be put in place in terms of teaching staff, learning materials, laboratories and more – and this is of course a challenge for everyone involved. The departments have now reported what additional resources they need, and work is ongoing on a risk and impact analysis of this intensive process. The faculty leadership greatly appreciates the major effort currently being made across several departments,” says Pär Aronsson,
Head of Faculty Administration
at the NJ Faculty.
